. . . instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus ~ Philippians 4:6-7
It’s very difficult to know what to say about the current crisis. I don’t want to come across holy-moly or like a bible-basher. But I do know what God has done for me, and how He keeps me grounded in His love.
This year I am making my way through a devotional on Joy. About week 3 I almost gave up, because I’m not a usually joyful person, and was really struggling. In fact, until I started this journey, I had never really experienced Joy in my life. I am so glad I have persevered because I am learning that Joy is not a feeling of satisfaction in something I have done, or a happy feeling, or anything I thought it was. Joy is found in Jesus, and the sacrifice He made for me at Calvary. With Easter on the horizon, this is an opportunity for us to hone in on what is real in our lives and on where each of us is going with our life.
Somewhere in the new testament (not good at remembering references) it says that God has put eternity into the human heart. No wonder we keep trying to find ways to live forever. AH! But this is exactly the question for our times. Jesus is the only way to God and eternal life. He is the Way and the Truth and the Life, and no-one can come to God the Father except through Him ~ John 14:6
In these troubling times, what with bush fires, volcanoes erupting, wars, many other world events, and now this virus, I urge you to turn your eyes toward Jesus. I urge you to look to God. I want to encourage you to ask Jesus to come into your heart and help you. He will give you peace. He will guard your heart and mind and fill you with Joy.
Joy in the knowledge of Him, regardless of what is going on around you.

I live in Sale in the Gippsland area of Victoria, Australia. The local Baptist church is my church home. We had church for the first time last Sunday via live streaming. If you have ever wanted to come to church, or even return to church, and have been too shy to actually walk into one, then why not consider joining us via the internet this Sunday at sbc.org.au/online at 10am.
2 Timothy 1:7 ~
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but (He has given us a spirit) of power and of love and of sound judgement and personal discipline (abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control)” AMP
So God has given us power, love and sound judgement.
Power ~ The ability to change the atmosphere.
Love ~ The very characteristic of God that casts out all fear.
Sound Judgement (or mind) ~ A mind that has been delivered, rescued, revived. No longer affected by absurd, illogical and unfounded thoughts, and/or ideas.
This is the arsenal of weapons we have to defeat fear in our minds, and therefore, the enemy.
We need to get back our roar. Our fight. Go on the offensive instead of spending all our time on the defensive. It’s tiring, to say the least.
When a lion roars you can hear it 5 miles away! When they roar it’s to ~
- Declare their strength.
- Warn others that this is their territory.
- Declare their hunger (for us, spiritual appetite) Psalm 34:10
- Declare to other lions where they’re at.
- They roar in the morning and in the evening. Psalm 92:1-2
I think this is cool . . . “Fear knocked at the door, Faith answered . . . And lo, No-one was there!”
(The majority of the content in his post is credited to Pat and Karen Schatzline. I saw them on Foxtel on the Daystar channel on Joni Table Talk. They have a book called, “Restore the Roar.”)
Whenever I feel fear I declare ~ “Get out of my head Satan, In the Name of Jesus!”
Halley’s Bible says of this scripture ~
“The sacred, permanent, unbroken love of Christ for us. His death for us, His forgiveness. He has given Himself to us in the person of the Holy Spirit. If we are His, no power on earth, or in heaven, or in hell, can prevent His bringing us to Himself.”
Matthew Henry ~
“All that God is, and has, and does, is for His people. And if so, ‘Who can be against us?’ And prevail against us? Be they ever so strong, so many ~ What can they do?
While God is for us and we keep in His love, we may defy all the powers of darkness. Let Satan do his worst. He is chained.
Who then dares fight against us, while God Himself is fighting for us?
Psalm 118:6 AMP ~ “The Lord is on my side, I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Hebrews 13:6 AMP ~ “So we take comfort and are encouraged, and confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper, in time of need, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?’ “
